VDS ALTERNATIVE

Do you need a VDS for Minecraft AFK?

A VDS is one option, not a requirement. The right choice depends on maintenance, electricity, technical confidence, cost, and server compatibility.

Keeping your own computer on

You keep direct control and there is nothing new to learn, but you also carry the electricity cost, operating-system maintenance, internet interruptions, and the job of noticing when a process has silently stopped.

Running a VDS

A VDS moves the machine to a remote server, which helps with power and connectivity, but you still handle setup, updates, security hardening, and recovery when a process fails. It is a good fit if you are comfortable administering a Linux host.

Using a managed worker

A managed worker can reduce operational work because the infrastructure, restarts, and updates are handled for you. It does not change the server’s rules, so a compatibility check still comes first.

How to decide

Weigh monthly cost, how much maintenance you want to do, and how bad an unnoticed outage would be. Start with a compatibility check and a short test session, then pick the route whose ongoing effort you are actually willing to sustain.
